Description

At Bristol Myers Squibb, we are inspired by a single vision – transforming patients’ lives through science. In oncology, hematology, immunology and cardiovascular disease – and one of the most diverse and promising pipelines in the industry – each of our passionate colleagues contribute to innovations that drive meaningful change. We bring a human touch to every treatment we pioneer. Join us and make a difference.

Position Summary

We seek a collaborative and innovative computational scientist to join the Predictive Sciences team in San Diego and bring razor-sharp predictive research and informatics skills and acute scientific acumen to bear on our next-generation protein degradation assays and AI/ML prediction platforms.

Working alongside Research & Early Development colleagues in the BMS Oncogenesis Thematic Research Center, Small Molecular Drug Discovery, and teams in the global Informatics and Predictive Sciences (IPS) department, the successful applicant will play a key scientific role in systemic integration and use of state-of-art proteomics and other biochemical and cellular assay systems to empower burgeoning AI/ML applications in protein degradation drug discovery research. This role offers the opportunity to directly impact the origination and development of transformational therapies in key diseases of unmet medical need. Strong interest in the interdisciplinary application of computational research to the life sciences is imperative.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with internal teams to develop novel proteomics profiling and screening strategies for novel target identification and compound MoA characterization.

Devise statistical approaches to analyze and identify robust and biologically meaningful patterns in high-throughput cellular interaction and degradation screening assay data.

Integrate and featurize a range of high-throughput screening data sources to frame AI/ML approaches.

Develop analytical frameworks for multiplexed phenotypic assays, combination screens and pooled genetic screens and establish practices for difference thresholding and data interpretation.

Collaborate in cross-functional teams to design screening assays, transform assay outputs to prediction-ready datasets and yield insights that empower data-driven decisions.

Author scientific reports, and present methods, results, and conclusions to publishable standard.

Contribute to planning and execution of collaborative projects with leading academic and commercial research groups worldwide.

Background experience & complementary knowledge

Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, biostatistics, or related field from a recognized higher-education establishment.

2+ years of postdoctoral experience in applying quantitative approaches to solve biological problems in university, hospital, pharma, or biotech research environments.

Demonstrated ability to integrate heterogeneous data sources and perform predictive multivariate analysis of integrated high-dimensional datasets.

Proven expertise in the development and/or implementation of algorithms to distill, analyze and interpret complex datasets.

Experience of computational biology research on a range of proteomics assays.

Expertise in algorithmic implementation, statistical programming, and data manipulation, using e.g., R/Bioconductor, Python and contemporary, open-source bioinformatics tools and database.

Track record of peer-reviewed publications in top-tier scientific journals.

Proven problem-solving skills, collaborative nature, and adaptability across disciplines.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Fluent verbal and written English language skills prerequisite.
